Tarot, Curiosity & collecting Beautifully Strange Things

 love anything a bit mystical, macabre or just unknown. I question everything.

I’ve had many tarot readings over the years. Some have been really good and some have been really naff! But I’m always trying to find that tarot reader — the one who gets it so right that I’m left wondering how on earth they could possibly have known.

I’ve also lost count of how many times I’ve been told I’m going to meet someone in the next few months.

Alas, I’m still single! 😂

I’d love to be able to read tarot cards myself, and I’ve been told more than once that I have the gift. Maybe I’m just not open enough to it, or perhaps I haven’t found the right way of learning yet.

I do love listening to tarot readings on YouTube though. One of my favourites is White Feather Tarot because I love how in-depth the readings are and how everything is explained rather than just telling you what the cards supposedly mean.

But there’s another reason I’m drawn to tarot cards.

The artwork.

Even though I can’t read them, I love looking at them. I’ve even been known to use tarot cards as bookmarks purely because I love the artwork so much.

I think that’s connected to another side of me that has always been there — I love art and creativity. I’d love to be able to draw and paint, and that’s probably why I’ve always loved tattoos too… although I don’t actually have any!

I’m also incredibly indecisive, which is probably one of the reasons I’ve never had one. I can never make up my mind what I want, or more importantly, where on my body I’d put it.

Before opening my online store, I was a nail technician and nail artist for around 30 years.

So I’m not completely creatively redundant!

But nails and nail art didn’t always come easily to me. It took a lot of practice and honing my skills. I’d collect images and pictures that gave me ideas and inspiration, and quite often I’d have a brilliant idea in my head without necessarily having the creative skill to actually implement it.

Eventually though, I became good enough to spend around 30 years doing it — and teaching it within the education system.

Somewhere along the way, I lost my passion for it.

Then recently, for the first time in around two years, I suddenly felt inspired to sit down and do some art on my own nails again.

I think some of that has come from moving to Brighton and being surrounded by all the creativity, individuality and art galleries that Brighton has to offer. There are interesting things everywhere you look, and I think being around that has started waking up that creative part of me again.

So when I decided to open an online store, it became a rather good excuse to collect things that are quirky, strange and beautiful — things I already love, except now I get to pass some of them on.

And tarot cards were definitely on my list.

They’re little pieces of art in their own right. Some are dark and gothic, some are beautiful and ethereal, some are weird, some are macabre and some are just completely unlike anything else.

Which, thinking about it, pretty much sums up the sort of things I’m naturally drawn to.

So whether you’re a tarot reader, a collector, someone who’s curious about the mystical side of things, or you simply love the artwork…
